Text Formatting
In order to maintain visual unity within a website, it is crucial that content formatting remain unified in all subpages. The text entered will use a predetermined font type, while its colour and size can be edited (namely for titles/Headings 1 and secondary titles/Headings 2). We recommend using the
FORMAT dropdown menu.
.
Highlight the title/Heading 1 or secondary title/Heading 2 and then select the appropriate style from the FORMAT dropdown menu according to the level of importance of the individual title/secondary title.
We recommend that you
do not, whenever this is possible, use the option of formatting text with SIZE dropdown menu
and the TEXT COLOR
button.
Formatting text with predetermined formats and fonts is important both from the point of view of
website design unity and
search engine optimisation. Search engines recognise the titles formatted with format styles are recognised by search engines as titles and therefore considered to be of greater importance than the rest of the text, which does not apply to the titles the size and font colour of which have been set manually. This can be an advantage in your site's search engine performance. Use the SIZE and TEXT COLOR options only exceptionally, such as when you wish to highlight a certain combination of words in a paragraph.
Bold text should also be used with "caution". We advise against setting whole paragraphs or the entire text into bold font. This should only be used on certain words or word combinations you wish to stress, such as those closely related to the main theme of the paragraph. This will allow readers, during the quick scanning of the text, to slow down and focus on the topic that may be of interest to them. If an entire paragraph is in bold text, it is very likely that readers will simply skip it while scanning the page.
We also advise against the
underlining of text, as underlined text in the Web usually designates links. If a link is added to a certain text, the formatting will change automatically. Visitors may consider it misleading when they see underlined text that does not contain a link.
If you wish to
align text, use the buttons provided
. Do not justify texts by using a large amount of spaces, as the Editor may treat a large number of successive spaces as an error and delete them. We also
advise against using
central alignment in most cases. In principle, this can be used only when the visual aspect of the paragraph is more important than its content - as a sort of variegation. Otherwise, centrally aligned text is hard to read.
You may improve text lisibility by using
bullets and numbering . We recommend that in order to set a bulleted list, you use the buttons provided and do not use dashes and spaces. Enter the text to be put in a bulleted list one line on top of another, then higlight all the rows you would like bulleted or numbered, and finally click the INSERT/REMOVE BULLETS or NUMBERING button.
IMPORTANT NOTICE:
It is not allowed to directly transfer (copy) content from documents (such as MS Word files), as direct transferring also copies the formatting which the built-in editor is unable to change due to the use of different standards. If you wish to transfer into your webpage content that you have previously written in a Word document, you should first copy it into Notepad and then from there on into the website. Thus content without formatting will be transferred into the website, which you will then be able to format by using the built-in editor.
In the event of attempting to transfer formated content, such content will be formatted differently to the remainder of content on your site, and this may also affect the display of the entire subpage into which such content has been copied (usually this affects the look of the menus and the links on the page). Should formatted content be copied directly into a subpage, all content of the affected subpage must be deleted (and not only the content copied incorrectly) and re-entered. |
